Following the announcement of the release window for GTA 6, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick gave an interview to CNBC discussing the game’s development. Zelnick expressed confidence in the game’s fall release, while acknowledging that GTA 6 is a unique case.
In the case of an outstanding game that has exceptional expectations, it’s not just about bugs. It’s about creating a game that no one has seen before, and Rockstar Games is committed to excellence. Perfection is hard to measure.
Strauss Zelnick
Regrettably, Zelnick has not disclosed the unique mechanics that will be featured in the game. It is possible that they will be showcased in the upcoming months; notably, the official website of the project has recently made space for new screenshots.
GTA VI will not have to be postponed
Rockstar Games’ major titles often face delays. However, the Take-Two CEO has assured that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be an exception. The company is confident that the game will launch as scheduled in the fall of 2025.
How confident are you that GTA VI will be released in the fall of 2025? Initially, you named only a year, that is, the release could potentially take place in February. So how high is your confidence?
— Well, there are forced postponements in the industry, we have no immunity against them. But we’ve narrowed down the release window because we’re pretty confident in that timeline.
Strauss Zelnick
The hosts questioned Zelnick on the new experiences GTA 6 will provide. The Take-Two president skillfully avoided a direct answer, implying that the game’s first trailer, which “broke the Internet,” should be rewatched by those interested in GTA 6 for its “excellent” content.
Rockstar Games has a history of delaying their major releases, often multiple times:
- Red Dead Redemption 2 was initially slated for the second half of 2017, then early 2018, but ultimately launched on October 26, 2018.
- Grand Theft Auto V was initially set for release in the second quarter of 2013 but was released on September 17, 2013.
- Max Payne 3 was first announced for late 2009, then pushed to 2010, 2011, March 2012, and finally released on May 15, 2012, with the PC release delayed by an additional two weeks.
- Red Dead Redemption was initially scheduled for late 2009, then April 2010, and finally released on May 18, 2010.
- Grand Theft Auto IV was originally set for release on October 16, 2007, but was released on April 29, 2008.
Recently, Rockstar Games has been more timely, releasing both GTA | The Trilogy and the Red Dead Redemption remaster without any delays, although they are not considered major releases by Rockstar’s standards.
No one has ever seen anything like this
Zelnick has stated that the number of bugs in a game reflects its development stage, and the company aims to release products with the fewest possible bugs. In the case of GTA 6, the focus is less on bugs and more on delivering an unprecedented gaming experience.
He recognized the challenges in the gaming industry but emphasized Take-Two’s commitment to the GTA 6 launch, slated for fall 2025. The company has even pinpointed a specific release date, showcasing their confidence in the project’s success.
Details on GTA 6 are currently sparse. It is rumored that the game will feature two main characters – Lucia and her partner. It remains unconfirmed if players can control both. The game’s setting is the fictional Vice City in the state of Leonidas.
GTA 6 is anticipated to launch in fall 2025 for the latest PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
