Shadow of the Erdtree will be the sole expansion for Elden Ring, yet FromSoftware has not dismissed the potential for a sequel to its hardcore action RPG in the future.
In an interview with the Chinese publication Campfire Camp, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game director and head of FromSoftware, discussed the future plans for Elden Ring following the DLC’s release. The studio may revisit the universe that has become a highly successful RPG.
“There will definitely be only one DLC, and for the rest, we don’t want to exclude anything,” Miyazaki explained.
Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree details
The head of FromSoftware gave also an interview with the Chinese publication Zhuanlan, where he revealed the latest details of the Elden Ring add-on, Shadow of the Erdtree.
An interesting aspect of the Shadow of the Erdtree add-on for Elden Ring is that the DLC appears to include a separate progression element that players can choose to disable.
Hidetaka Miyazaki stated that while the expansion’s difficulty is on par with the latter half of the base Elden Ring game, there are features to ease the challenge. In the DLC, characters will gain a new power-up attribute, which players can level up or disable to increase the difficulty.
- The difficulty level of the DLC can be compared to the second half of the original game;
- Shadow of the Erdtree introduces many new weapons, skills, and spells. Some of them will surprise even seasoned players;
- The add-on will clarify some plot points and allow you to better understand the mythology of the game;
- Players will encounter several characters mentioned in Elden Ring, such as Saint Trina;
- The DLC will include multiple endings, but none of them will be the finale of Elden Ring;
- Shadow of the Erdtree is the first and final expansion for Elden Ring.
Elden Ring has become FromSoftware’s most triumphant release and the quickest-selling Japanese multiplatform game to date. By early 2024, it has attracted over 23 million purchasers, surpassing any title from the Final Fantasy, Resident Evil, Dark Souls, or Metal Gear Solid series.
Back in 2022, Bandai Namco shared their aspiration for Elden Ring to initiate a whole new series.
The upcoming expansion, Elden Ring | Shadow of the Erdtree, is set for release on June 21.
