Annapurna Pictures, founded by Megan Ellison, daughter of the American billionaire Larry Ellison and an avid art enthusiast, has become a significant force in the film industry due to her instinct, creativity, and refined taste.
The company also ventures into video games, with some titles self-published and others under the auspices of Annapurna Interactive, led by Nathan Gary. As president of Annapurna Pictures and a key figure since 2019, Gary has been instrumental in the company’s direction.
However, the partnership between Ellison and Gary came to an abrupt end. Gary proposed making Annapurna Interactive an independent entity due to its operational success, but Ellison disagreed, leading to Gary’s resignation followed by the entire publishing team.
While projects from external studios remain secure, in-house developments face uncertainty, including those from the teams behind Silent Hill | Townfall and Blade Runner 2035. Nonetheless, Annapurna is committed to funding the development of Control 2, recognizing the gaming sector’s lucrative returns in recent years.
Annapurna Interactive is renowned as a top publisher, celebrated for its many awards and acclaimed games such as What Remains of Edith Finch, Gorogoa, Outer Wilds, Cocoon, and Stray. The publisher maintained a high standard of quality through efficient resource allocation, intelligent marketing strategies, and a dedicated approach to quality control.
