Amazon Games has officially declared that the upcoming paid Aeternum expansion for New World will significantly transform the game, to the extent of altering its genre.
The cumbersome term MMORPG will be superseded by the more succinct and melodious ARPG. Amazon Games has rationalized this genre shift by stating that the updated game will concentrate on narrative content and a variety of cinematics.
The combat system is set to undergo several enhancements, the camera angle will be brought closer to the player, and the gameplay is being designed for solo playthroughs. Additionally, there will be extra challenges for players who venture alone.
Aeternum will continue to feature network content, including PvP zones, dungeons, guilds, and cooperative activities. The developers have also committed to improving matchmaking. However, Amazon Games envisions players engaging in solo combat against mobs, leveling up their characters independently. Companions are not a necessity for this experience.
The release is set for October 15, 2024. Owners of the basic version, without the latest additions, will stay in the old genre.
