BioWare veteran and former Dragon Age franchise producer Mark Darrah expressed high praise for Dragon Age | The Veilguard, declaring the gameplay of the forthcoming RPG to be the zenith of the series’ development.
In conversations with the press, Darrah conceded that in his view, gameplay in Dragon Age had traditionally been a secondary aspect—the battles were engaging but did not demand significant player involvement. With Veilguard, this dynamic has shifted, according to the producer.
“[Veilguard] is really the best Dragon Age I’ve ever played. This is a game where the focus was again on the characters and the narrative, but at the same time the combat system remained fun, and the developers did not have to make any compromises,” explained Mark Darrah.
Elaborating on the concept, the ex-Dragon Age producer highlighted that Veilguard’s battles will feature enhanced dynamics and a focus on the protagonist’s skills. This means that players must remain highly attentive during combat. Despite the reduction in party size to three characters, the tactical aspect remains, requiring players to manage the abilities of their two companions effectively.
Although Darrah has parted ways with BioWare, he contributed to Dragon Age | The Veilguard as an external advisor, aiding his former colleagues with artistic choices. Having played the new RPG, he expressed great satisfaction with the experience.
Dragon Age | The Veilguard is anticipated to launch before the year’s end.
