Microsoft is deeply invested in integrating artificial intelligence across all its services and applications. As a major player in game development, it was inevitable for Copilot to make its appearance in this domain. Moreover, there have been announcements about the integration of AI into Xbox consoles.
The previous day, Microsoft hosted an event focusing on Surface and AI. There, the company revealed the future of Windows on ARM, Surface AI PCs, and new features for Microsoft Copilot AI. Additionally, the company announced Microsoft Copilot’s integration into video games, beginning with Minecraft.
Players will have the ability to ask questions in natural language, such as “How do I make a sword?”, and Copilot will locate the required materials in chests and inventory or guide them on where to find them.
Simultaneously, the user engages in a live conversation with artificial intelligence, receiving responses as natural as if they were conversing with a real person. The program provides guidance in a lifelike voice, instructing which buttons to press and what actions to follow.
Furthermore, Copilot will detail the item creation process, removing the need for players to consult external sites for guides.
It remains uncertain which additional features will be introduced, their timing, and the games that will incorporate them. However, it is evident that one of the roles of AI in gaming will be akin to that of a guide and tutorial.
Such an implementation could profoundly change how games are experienced, potentially rendering the need to search for video walkthroughs obsolete. Instead of scouring the internet for solutions, players will simply ask the AI for assistance.
Microsoft also highlighted privacy concerns, stating that data utilized by these PC AIs will stay on the device and not be uploaded to the cloud or used for training language models without user permission.
This announcement is noteworthy considering the criticism faced by the company regarding privacy in Windows 10 and subsequent versions. The impact of this integration on the future of gaming and web content will be intriguing to observe.
