There’s a prevailing belief that implementing wheeled vehicles in the Creation Engine is not feasible. Bethesda staff have not directly addressed this, but they have indicated that wheeled travel does not align with their vision for exploring their worlds. As a result, Skyrim features horses and dragons, while Fallout 4 offers slow, powered flight.
Many fans suspect that the reasoning is similar to that behind download times. They speculate that Bethesda’s expansive and intricate worlds would suffer from significant performance issues if players were to traverse them rapidly in cars or motorcycles, due to the need to load cells containing hundreds of objects that constitute a typical Bethesda environment.
Indeed, several experiments have demonstrated that Starfield maintains its performance even when spaces are filled to capacity with potatoes.
A rain of thousands of cardboard bags does not cause any difficulties either.
Ground vehicles in Starfield are coming soon. Bethesda subtly included the announcement of this new feature in the developer diaries for the upcoming update.
The significant update is scheduled for release on May 15, 2024. The all-terrain vehicles showcased in the teaser are expected to be available at a later date. They may be associated with the launch of the Shattered Space add-on for Starfield.
The update will introduce enhanced city maps, a new extreme difficulty level, options to customize your spaceship’s interior, and the choice to disable the first-person camera during dialogues. Moreover, players can alter the protagonist’s traits and appearance after beginning New Game+. Additionally, the Xbox Series X will feature a performance mode that supports 60 FPS.
