Recently, the gaming universe was astounded by a method to play Terraria within Minecraft, showcased by the Reddit user amaphi on the Terraria subreddit.
Amaphi not only succeeded in launching Terraria but also played long enough to summon and defeat the Eye of Cthulhu, controlling two characters simultaneously.
The setup involved a complex system requiring two computers, a Minecraft server, several plugins, Java programming skills, two weeks of real-time, and a great deal of creativity.
Initially, Terraria and Minecraft were run on one computer, with the Minecraft server on the second. A plugin then captured Terraria screenshots, scaled them down tenfold, and displayed them within Minecraft, converting pixels into corresponding colored game blocks.
The control system was equally intricate. The plugin tracked the Minecraft character’s camera coordinates and direction, converting this data into commands for the Terraria character. Essentially, the Terraria hero became a puppet controlled by the Minecraft character.
Amaphi suggests that it’s possible to complete Terraria in this manner. However, a frame rate of only 20 FPS could pose a challenge.
