Players often remark that “Stardew Valley is so wholesome,” highlighting the game’s positive impact. It’s widely believed to help restore mental equilibrium and shed negativity, while being engaging without being addictive.
However, there’s also a place for darker, more addictive games that can consume days or weeks. Bad Ridge Games studio is developing such a game named Mirthwood.
Mirthwood amalgamates elements from life simulator giants like RimWorld, The Sims, and Stardew Valley, creating a multi-genre sandbox set in a magical medieval era fraught with hardship and peril.
While not strictly a survival game, Mirthwood incorporates changing weather, a hunger system, and other similar mechanics. Players can lead a pastoral life, tending to a farm complete with a vegetable garden, goats, and chickens.
Yet, for those who seek adventure over tranquility, there’s the option to adopt a combat class, transform sickles into swords, and venture into the Gloomy Forest, a realm teeming with bandits and monsters, where the game shifts into a robust role-playing experience.
Upon its release, Mirthwood will be a single-player game enriched with deep social interactions. Future updates from the developers will introduce cooperative gameplay and modding capabilities.

It will be released on September 11, 2024, here is the Steam page, a demo is available there.
