The processor of the PlayStation 5 Pro is not expected to significantly enhance performance in CPU-intensive games or support 40 FPS gameplay.
Experts from Digital Foundry have commented on the modest 10% increase in CPU power of the PS5 Pro over the base model, stating that a 33 percent performance boost in 40 FPS games would necessitate a far greater increase in CPU resources than the 10 percent rise in clock speed provides.

They believe that implementing a 40 FPS mode is more feasible for games that already run above 30 FPS on the base console version. However, they are skeptical that developers will opt for a PS5 Pro-exclusive 40 FPS mode rather than enhancing visual quality with a more powerful GPU in the new model.
Furthermore, Digital Foundry anticipates that the 40 FPS mode will not become prevalent on the upgraded console, considering the very limited number of players who have TVs or monitors capable of utilizing this mode.
The PlayStation 5 Pro is expected to be released this fall
The Verge reported that Sony has started informing developers about the requirement to submit their games for PlayStation 5 Pro compatibility certification by August. Additionally, the company is encouraging studios to utilize enhanced graphics features, such as ray tracing.
Furthermore, Sony’s documentation for PS5 Pro developers reveals that the standard PS5 will remain on the market following the introduction of the new, more powerful model, which is being marketed as an “advanced version of the PlayStation 5.”
PlayStation 5 Pro development kits are now accessible to developers and can be requested from Sony by third-party studios. Meanwhile, the commercial release of the console is anticipated for the forthcoming holiday season.
Regarding the technical specifications, The Verge has confirmed the authenticity of the earlier leak. The PS5 Pro is set to receive a more powerful GPU, which will offer approximately 45 percent faster rendering speeds and a threefold improvement in ray tracing performance.
The processor remains unchanged; however, developers can opt between the standard 3.5 GHz CPU mode or a boosted 3.85 GHz mode. In the latter, the CPU’s power distribution increases slightly at the expense of the GPU’s performance, which may decrease by 1.5 percent. The PS5 Pro will also feature enhanced system memory bandwidth, increasing from 448 to 576 GB/s, and developers will have access to 13.7 GB of RAM compared to the regular console’s 12.5 GB. A significant innovation is the inclusion of Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology, poised to compete with NVIDIA’s DLSS and AMD’s FSR.
