Last year was rich in good horrors, and among other things, it gave us Amnesia | The Bunker. And if you’ve been looking for something like that ever since, you should check out Decadent, a game that mixes supernatural devilry with a historical vibe, with rivers of blood bubbling up against the backdrop of adrenaline-pumping fire.
The player takes on the role of World War I veteran John Lorne, who has become too involved in the occult and thus got involved in a dangerous research project. As a result, an evil parasite has broken free, which changes Lorne’s entire life, turning it into a real nightmare.
With each passing day, the protagonist feels worse, so his attempts to escape lead him to Antarctica, in the footsteps of an expedition that was described in one of H. P. Lovecraft’s novels, The Mountains of Madness. In this novel, Miskatonic University discovers an ancient civilization and, apparently, Lorne stumbles upon its followers, whom we see in the trailer.
The game is quite meaty, as it has a lot of shooting, blood, and dismemberment, so it will surely appeal to fans of slasher movies. Moreover, the developers themselves position their creation as a story-driven first-person shooter, but densely seasoned with horror and madness of all kinds. Since Lorne is fond of the occult, you will be able to improve your weapons with spells, however, excessive practice of magic will lead the main character into the abyss of madness with hallucinations and panic attacks.
This promising story should be released in 2025, but in the meantime, it can be added to Steam’s wishlist.
