In video games, heroes aren’t always portrayed as triumphant victors. Some characters have fates so grim that they evoke nothing but pity, fear, and revulsion. This isn’t mere ridicule.
For instance, Clementine from Telltale’s The Walking Dead had to mature rapidly in a post-apocalyptic world, facing loss and betrayal. Another example is N from Pokémon Black & White, who, despite his noble intentions, was manipulated by his adoptive father. Asgore from Undertale is portrayed as a villain but is actually a tragic figure who has lost everything to humans.
We will discuss such characters who have endured severe mistreatment. These heroes have suffered physical and psychological anguish, with some facing a fate even more dreadful than death.
