The forthcoming real-time strategy game, Age of Mythology: Retold, builds upon the original 2014 release, bringing players back to a mythical age enhanced with modern technology and new content. The developers have crafted a narrative campaign featuring 50 revamped missions where players will besiege the walls of Troy, combat monsters in Midgard’s desolation, and endure the intense heat of ancient Egypt.
Core gameplay elements will remain intact, allowing strategists to select deities from Greek, Norse, Egyptian, or Atlantean mythologies to vanquish foes using divine interventions. Certain gods empower their devotees with elemental forces and seismic upheavals, while others permit the summoning of the legendary dragon, Nidhogg.
Age of Mythology: Retold’s multiplayer facet includes a cooperative mode where up to six players can undertake missions together, featuring the brand-new Trials of the Gods, in which players amass potent blessings to confront ever-stronger gods. Competitive play is limited to one-on-one duels, with no significant enhancements to this mode.
In online activities, each participant can command an army of mythological creatures: towering cyclops, swift centaurs immune to mummy damage, and even crocodiles that harness solar energy. For a fee, players can acquire extra sets of divine pantheons, featuring unique abilities and creatures that offer a distinct advantage over the standard ones.
Age of Mythology: Retold is set for release on September 4, 2024, for PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S.
