Journalists from various outlets have shared their initial thoughts on the role-playing action game Black Myth: Wukong. On Metacritic, the game’s rating at the time of publication stands at 82 out of 100, based on 52 reviews. The PC version of Wukong was the one assessed by the press.

The press has lauded the game for its intense enemy battles, inventive boss designs, and a world teeming with secrets. However, there are shortcomings: the absence of a map makes exploration challenging, repetitive enemy encounters can become tedious, and the game is not free from bugs and performance issues. Additionally, some reviewers expressed confusion over certain plot elements, noting that a thorough understanding of the game’s narrative requires familiarity with its inspiration, the Chinese novel “Journey to the West”.

“Despite some annoying technical issues, Black Myth: Wukong is a great action game with fantastic combat, exciting bosses, intriguing secrets, and a beautiful world.” IGN;

“Black Myth: Wukong features eccentric characters and expressive combat, all woven into the rich world of the original source.” PC Gamer;

“Black Myth: Wukong stands out as one of the strongest debut games released in recent memory. It’s not innovative, but it masterfully combines elements from several popular franchises to deliver an immersive experience that falls just short of the best of the genre.” Wccftech;

“Black Myth: Wukong is a fun action RPG with exciting combat and a fun world that mostly encourages exploration. The game is reminiscent of modern God of War if you look at them through the lens of Chinese mythology.” GamesRadar+.
